 Where do I park? How much does it cost?

The Museum parking ramp is located on Front Street just south of the Museum entrance.  The cost to park in the ramp is $2 per hour with a maximum of $8 for the day.  However, if you show your Museum ticket stub to the Parking Attendant, you’ll pay only $1 per hour.  If you arrive after 4:00 pm Monday – Friday, the ramp is $5 pre-pay.

How do I become a member?

You have three options:

 Are carousel rides free to members?  What about Planetarium shows?

Yes, carousel rides and Planetarium shows are free to members.  If you’d like to ride the carousel, simply present your membership card to the Carousel Operator.  If you’d like to see a Planetarium show, the Museum front desk will print tickets for the show of your choice.

How long does my membership last?

Memberships last one year from the purchase date.

Does my membership automatically renew?

No. Memberships end one year after the purchase date.  You will receive a membership renewal letter in the mail two months before your membership expires.

Can I bring a guest with me?

We have an “Add-A-Guest” option which can be added to any of the Basic Membership Levels (Individual, Dual, Family and Grandparent) for an additional $15 annually.  A maximum of two “Add-A-Guests” can be added to the Basic Membership Levels.

Is my membership tax deductible?

Yes.  All memberships are fully tax deductible.  The letter that we mail to you (with attached membership cards) serves as your receipt for tax purposes.

What are the Museum’s hours?

The Museum’s hours are as follows:

Monday - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday: 9 am-8 pm

Wednesday – Saturday: 9 am-5 pm

Sunday : Noon to 5 p.m.

Do members of the Grand Rapids Public Museum receive free or discounted admission to other museums or institutions?
Yes!  We are now a member of the ASTC (Association of Science-Technology Centers) Travel Passport Program.  This means that our members receive free general admission to over 325 other science centers and museums nationwide and internationally.  Visit for a list of participating organizations and rules for admission.

Because the ASTC has 90 mile exclusion policy, all participating ASTC museums within 90 miles (as the crow flies) of the Grand Rapids Public Museum are excluded from the program – meaning that our members cannot receive free admission at these institutions.  The three excluded museums are:

·        Alden B. Dow Museum of Science & Art, Midland

·        Kingman Museum, Battle Creek

·        Museum of Southwestern Michigan College, Dowagiac

Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing is NOT excluded from the reciprocal program (even though they are within the 90 mile radius).  This means that Museum members will receive free general admission to Impression 5! 

Can I order tickets for special exhibits online?

Yes, but unfortunately we are not able to process member discounts online.  In order to receive your member discount, please call the Museum switchboard at 616.456.3977.

 I have lost my membership card. How do I get a replacement?

Please call the Museum switchboard at 616.456.3977 or e-mail with your name, address and a message stating you need new cards.

How do I update or change my account information?

 Do you offer gift memberships?  If so, how do I go about purchasing one?

Yes, we offer gift memberships.  If you would like to purchase one, please call the Museum switchboard at 616.456.3977 or visit the Museum’s front desk.  Unfortunately, gift memberships cannot be purchased via our website.

 Do you have a special membership for non-profit service organizations?

Yes, we do.  Please contact the Membership office at 616.929.1726 or e-mail for more information.

My family has a membership to the Museum.  We have a nanny/caregiver and would like her/him to be able to bring our children to the Museum.  How would that work?

You can purchase a “Nanny Add-On” to a Family Membership Level for $15 annually.  If you would like to add this to your membership, please call the Museum switchboard at 616.456.3977.  We will ask you for the name of your nanny/caregiver so we can add it to your membership record.  The nanny will be asked for ID when using the membership.

 Do I get a discount in the Curiosity Shop?

Yes! Members receive a 10% discount in the Curiosity Shop as well as the Museum Café.   In addition, we often have special coupons in the monthly member e-newsletter.

 If my family has a Museum membership, do I have to pay for my children to attend a field trip to the Museum?

Yes, unfortunately your membership does not cover the cost of field trips.  Field trips are separate from memberships and have their own costs associated with them.
